Bitcoin, Maytag, and The Mindshare Forks
Maytag washing machines just worked. Why ask for more? Nobody does, but it doesn’t work like that. Turns out, there’s a big downfall in doing a job so well. Every support call is a chance to upsell. It’s kind of a scam, but it’s the way folk are. They are easily captured by the latest gimmicks. In the 80s and 90s, crappier competitors such as Samsung and LG peddled their latest gimmicks, while Maytag fell further into the shadows. The Bitcoin community should take heed.

Crypto For Lefties, Part Three
I have been trying to convince Lefties that crypto is a good option for them too. In Part One, I argued that it makes no sense to cling to the banksters’ form of money, e.g. dollars, in a reactionary way, unless you really are a Reactionary.1 In Part Two, I gave the reader my recommendation of the three best ‘Left-aligned’ cryptocurrencies to use. I know that most Lefties will have nagging doubts still. Doubts over crypto are reasonable. I will try to deal with some of them.

Crypto For Lefties, Part Two: Top 3 Cryptos
Cryptocurrency is a tool and an ethos. The ethos has as its polestar the right of the individual to send money to whomever he or she wants. I outlined the ethos here. The ethos is broad enough to allow tweaking. Lefties often feel like crypto is just for Libertarians, but many nerds are Lefties, and have tweaked both the tech and the ethos. It’s just like in music; the way whereby Grunge tweaked Rock to get rid of the leather pants and lecherous fantasies. Let's separate the Pearl Jams from the Def Leppards.

RBF, Elitism, and Crypto Purgatory
With crypto, you hit ‘send’, and your transaction goes to a kind of purgatory, and there it stays, waiting for the blockchain’s publishers to give it the thumbs up. That’s not the way I see it, mind you. That’s the widespread understanding. It’s no wonder that Computer Science grads push for shorter and shorter block-publishing times. Why spend too long in purgatory? I wrote recently about RBF for Bitcoin (BTC) and how it made BTC less usable as money. Now, I want to focus on how RBF puffed up this ‘purgatory’ misbelief. I will show how RBF unwittingly served the goals of Bitcoin’s competitors.

Tether Wallet: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
I like my Cake Wallet, but its purple color is a smidge too dark. Edge works swimmingly— particularly its in-app trades— but the font is 1 pt too small. That rules out Sparrow Wallet too, which has the wrong font altogether. Meta Mask comes in handy, but it doesn’t support Coopcoin (COOP) on Algorand. I jest of course. What the world does not need is another crypto wallet app.
